URBINO

An “internationally reknowned brand” is the town of Urbino, the renaissance-town in the North Marche has become famous on international level. Urbino is the birth place of one of the most famous Italian artists of all time, of Raffaello Sanzio.

In the 15th century Urbino become the cultural center of the whole western world. In the renaissance the town became glamorous unter the reign of Federico II of Montefeltro. Architecture and important collections witness this period in European culture at todays Urbino.

The storical part of Urbino fortunately wasn´t destroyed in histories rough and tumble times, thus the buildings have remained intact in all their glamour and beauty. The dome instead was destroyed and has been rebuilt in neo-classizistic style by Valadier in the 18th and 19th century. You shouldn´t miss the Palazzo Ducale, a masterpiece of renaissance art. In the palace you´ll also find the Marche National Galery, a treasure chest of renaissance art.

Another hint: really worth a trip is also the “Chiesa di San Domenico” church (built in the 14th century) as well as the Palazzo dell'Università, in former times the residence of the important Montefeltro family, and the Raffaello-house of the 15th century.
